I love em nakamichis. Very clear....Great recording! Man anyone else feel that phil should step back from singing eyes?

Reviews of Phil's current Friends definitely seem mixed; I'm very happy with the first three shows that I saw with this band. If I had wanted this lineup to sound like earlier ones or like the good ol GD, I would have been disappointed. I'm not a fan of Chris (I'd rather hear Joan), but whoever Phil wants to play with is fine with me, so long as we're all invited.
To my ear Larry brings in an American roots kind of vibe in places, especially with his fiddle and mando. They take risks, Larry sounds tentative in places, comfortable in others, but overall a compelling next phase of Phil. The transitions seem like the hardest part for this band at this stage of playing together; they get into some nice jams between things, but skid out right at the point where they actually make the change. Sounds (and looked) like they were relying on cues from Phil for changes, rather than collectively intuiting where to take the jam. Sound inside of this venue was superb, and the tapes sound good to me.
People were leaving halfway through the Dark Star encore! I couldn't believe it! Must be amateurs or locals or something...

As a major fan of Dark Star I always cringe when I see it done by anyone other that the Dead from '69 - 74. This one however, has the goods and then some. I am amazed and thrilled to hear this kind of a Dark Star coming around now. WOW!
